Developed in 2013 by celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak, the Metabolic Reset Diet consists of a 15-day, smoothie-based, low-exercise plan in three separate phases. The smoothie-based diet, Pasternak says, is all about convenience, but he assures that despite the differences in micronutrients, all the recommended smoothie recipes have approximately equal nutritional values.
Phase 1 of the Metabolic Reset Diet is three smoothies a day — divided by color to represent three of the five core food groups as approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). White = breakfast, red = lunch, and green = dinner.
Phase 2 reintroduces solid foods to your body by trading out one smoothie for one solid, whole food meal.
Phase 3 calls for swapping another smoothie for a second real food meal. The last five days of this short-term diet are intended to ease participants back into eating more solid foods.
With the third phase, moderate exercise (skipping the gym in favor of low impact walking and counting steps) dieters are bound to shed some pounds, but many nutritionists agree, this is not a long-term resolution.
Although the diet may offer some people a quick fix for weight loss, making deliberate life changes with a skilled nutritionist is the most positive path toward a full body makeover.
