Life is stressful, there’s no use denying it, but there are ways to manage and relieve stress, even when it seems most overwhelming. Meditation is often touted as a dependable technique for easing stress, but for those who’ve never engaged in the ancient art of meditation, that too many seem overwhelming. Consider these few easy tips to help you integrate meditation into your daily or weekly routine:

Choose Your Space

Designate a space for meditation, and make sure you can engage in meditation in this space uninterrupted. Place a pillow on the floor—this will be where you sit to meditate, so make it a plush and comfortable one. Sit down—preferably cross-legged—relax, and rest your hands on your lap. Be aware of your posture, keep your shoulders back, keep your face forward and keep your back straight.

Focus On Breathing

Deep breathing is a pillar of meditation so take time to focus on the quality of your breath. Take deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth allowing them to become deeper and longer as your ease into your meditation.

Stay Present

Clear your mind of past ruminations and future uncertainty and focus on what your body is experiencing in this moment of meditation. Deep breathing will help clear your mind but maintaining a resolute dedication to being perfectly present will serve you greatly in your meditative endeavors.

Mastering meditation takes time, there’s no need to rush results.
