Not everybody is the same and not everybody can handle the same types of food. When it comes to building a diet that suits your body to help it maintain good health, some individuals may find that they should avoid certain foods even if they are not necessarily allergic to those particular foods.
Allergic reactions tend to be immediate and severe in nature, and thus are usually easier to identify, however, your body may develop food intolerances that don’t always make themselves immediately known. Reactions to a food that your body does not tolerate can take weeks or months to accumulate before obvious symptoms appear. They may also continue to create low levels of inflammation that constantly disrupt optimal body function without any outright symptomology.
Fortunately, getting tested for food intolerance is easy! It involves a finger prick to collect a small amount of blood. Your blood is then put in contact with a variety of foods that are known to be adverse and a measurable reaction is observed.
This is different from food allergy testing in several ways. Food allergy testing (either skin or blood) only evaluates your immune system’s reaction to foods. It can be unreliable at best, depending on the state of the individual’s immune system.
Getting tested for a food intolerance can save you from suffering chronic irritations that affect your body. After all, doesn’t it make sense to get to know your body as well as you possibly can in order to keep it happy and healthy? If left unchecked, a food intolerance can result in digestive issues, headaches, Ileocecal Valve Syndrome, skin rashes, adrenal fatigue, weight gain, joint pain, and brain fog. Once you can identify the food that causes a symptom or irritation, you can steer clear of it and plan out a healthier diet for yourself. Learn more about the benefits of food intolerance evaluation.
