Exercising is important no matter what age you are and encouraging your kids to partake in physical activities now can set them on the path for good future health. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with wanting your exercise time to be just for yourself. It can be a nice way to step back and de-stress. However, if you find that your kids aren’t getting enough physical exercise into their daily routine and you’re looking for a fun way to spend time together, consider allowing them to exercise with you.
Allow your kids to work at their own pace. There are plenty of exercises that allow you to get a good workout but are also simple enough for your children to keep up with.
Try the following exercises at home with your young ones:
Planking
To do this exercise, start by placing both elbows on the floor. Next, raise up on the tips of your toes while keeping your back straight as possible and making sure your abs are in tight in a line. You’ll want to hold that position as long as you can. If your kids can hold up to 30 seconds, that’s excellent.
Squats
First, put your feet a shoulders’ width apart. Go into a deep knee bend with both arms out, squatting as though to set down a box. Make sure your knees don’t extend past your toes.
Push-ups
These are pretty standard, and fun for the kids. As you go, make sure to keep your abs tight and your back straight. This can be done with the knee bent or straight.
Crunches
This exercise is like sit-ups, but not all the way from floor to knee. Rather, you just curl your chest toward your knees.
Lunges
First, you take a step. Making sure your front knee doesn’t extend past the toes, you then touch your back knee to the floor.
Mountain Climbers
For this exercise, you start in a push-up position. Next, alternate bringing one foot at a time forward toward your armpit and then extend it back out.
These simple exercises are a great way to get your kid into the habit of being active regularly – a lesson that they can take with them for years and years to come. Teach them how to be active now and you will benefit their health in the future.
Bring your kid to their doctor regularly.
